Window shutters for bifold doors or french doors is something we are getting asked more and more.

The window shutter industry has had to move with the times and design a shutter system that is hard wearing, reliable and works well on large windows and doors.

Traditional window shutters are fitted in a frame with the shutter panels hinged at the sides.

Perfect solution for windows and some smaller doors. The problem with this style of window shutters for bifold doors is the quantity, size and weight of the panels. The door panels are deeper than window panels the hinges would not cope with the weight. Over time the panels will drop and start catching the floor making them difficult to operate.

SHUTTER TRACK SYSTEM

The system that has been designed for window shutters for bifold doors is called a track system, and this is the only system we would use for any bifold or french doors.

SHUTTER TRACK SYSTEM

The shutter panels are hinged at the side in the same way as the traditional window shutters. The difference is panels are supported by a track at the top so your shutters are not relying on the hinges.

Imagine a vertical blind with each piece of fabric attached to a runner inside a track, shutters are the same.

With the track system you have a choice of how you shutter panels will stack when they are folded back.

Option 1 is all to one side… perfect option for window shutters for bifold doors.

2 is splitting in the middle with some panels going to the left and some to the right… great for french doors as your shutter will then match the doors.

3 is floating panels… this option gives you the most flexibility with each set of 2 panels being able to move either left or right.

The shutters for your bifold doors may also need a track at the bottom.

The bottom track helps your shutter panels run smoothly and prevents your shutters ‘swaying’.

IT’S OFFICIAL……..INSTALLING SHUTTERS WILL PREVENT UP TO 28% OF HEAT LOSS IN THE WINTER MONTHS.

An added benefit of installing window shutters in your home is the effect they will have on reducing your winter energy bills.

We had tested the effect of windows with and without shutters with an inferred heat camera, but now it has been scientifically tested in a comprehensive study carried out by the University of Salford and the British Blind and Shutter Association. Proving that your shutters will save you money during the colder months
