WINDOW SHUTTERS FOR BATHROOMS

CHOOSING THE RIGHT MATERIAL.
Window shutters can be made from a number of different materials, Vinyl, Fauxwood, MDF and Hardwood.
MDF shutters are the most popular shutters sold in the UK, mostly based on price as this is the cheapest of the 4 materials.
This is what happens to an MDF shutter fitted in a bathroom. The problem is you won’t know until a couple of years after they were installed. This lady had been quote and paid for fauxwood but the company she had chosen to use had installed MDF. The only reason I can see for doing that is to make extra profit.
The louvres are made up of wood chippings that are glued together so should be avoided when choosing window shutters for bathroom. Over time the moisture will start to affect the finish on your shutter and you will find the edges of the louvres will start flaking.
The same would be true of the Hardwood Shutters as they are made of natural timber and over time will also be affected by the moisture.
The 2 best materials for window shutters for bathrooms are Fauxwood and Vinyl. Both are totally waterproof so are the perfect choice for your bathroom.
The other aspect of window shutters for bathrooms is the design of the shutter panel, because window shutters offer something that is not available with any other type of window covering.
You can design your shutter panels to give you privacy at the bottom whilst still letting light in at the top.
This can be achieved in 3 ways, firstly with a full height shutter that covers all of your window but with what we call a split tilt. A split tilt means you can have the louvres at the bottom closed for your privacy but the ones at the top to let on light.
The second option is called tier on tier. As with the first option the shutters cover the full window but this time each panel is made up of 2 shutters, one covering the top part of the window and another the bottom section. This option will give you the most flexibility with the full window shutters for allowing the light in as you fold the top shutters whilst the bottom shutters are closed for your privacy.
The third option we call cafe style. This style of window shutter only covers the lower part of your window, with the top part of the window on show.
All of these shutter styles are made to your exact design so the height of the upper and lower panels is down to you and your shutter designer. Something you will need to consider is how the shutters look from outside. It always looks better if the split in your shutters match the frame of your window.
A customer made a comment to one of our shutter team after her shutters were installed that she had spent weeks worrying if she had made the right choices for her shutters. We designed a design system to remove that worry.
Our new shutter design system allows you to see and design your shutters at your windows so you can see exactly how they will look before you spend a penny.
IT’S OFFICIAL……..INSTALLING SHUTTERS WILL PREVENT UP TO 28% OF HEAT LOSS IN THE WINTER MONTHS.
An added benefit of installing window shutters in your home is the effect they will have on reducing your winter energy bills.
We had tested the effect of windows with and without shutters with an inferred heat camera, but now it has been scientifically tested in a comprehensive study carried out by the University of Salford and the British Blind and Shutter Association. Proving that your shutters will save you money during the colder months
