RETRACTABLE AWNINGS FOR HOMES
Posted on 25 April 2023 by Phil Coleman
Retractable awnings for homes are a great way of making the most of the summer.
There are 4 questions you need to ask yourself when deciding whether a retractable awning is right for you and your home.
- Which direction is your garden facing?
- Do you love sitting and entertaining in your garden?
- How hot do your rooms get?
- Is your furniture or flooring fading?
If the answer to 3 or 4 of these questions then then an awning could be worth it.
Let’s answer these questions one by one.
RETRACTABLE AWNINGS FOR HOMES? WHICH DIRECTION IS YOUR GARDEN FACING?
The direction of the sun in your garden is really important. South facing gardens are perfect for an awning.
Retractable awnings work best when the sun is directly facing them.
The first question I always ask when surveying a home for a retractable awning is which direction does the sun move around the garden?
30% of the homes I visit an awning is just not suitable because of the direction of the sun at different times of the day. If the sun is on the side of your home for most of the day then an awning would not give you much benefit.
You would only get some protection for maybe a couple of hours at the end of the day.
RETRACTABLE AWNINGS FOR HOMES? DO YOU LOVE SITTING AND ENTERTAINING IN YOUR GARDEN?
If you enjoy spending time in your garden then having a shady place to sit in the summer could be well worth it.
If you enjoy your barbecues then an awning is a great addition as it can also be used for a rain cover for light showers meaning you don’t have to move indoors.
RETRACTABLE AWNINGS FOR HOMES? HOW HOT DO YOUR ROOMS GET?
Awnings are great for keeping your rooms cooler in the summer months.
An awning will stop the sun hitting the glass so your rooms will stay so much cooler.
The right internal blinds will do a good job of reducing the heat in your home, but an awning covering your windows will make a huge difference.
RETRACTABLE AWNINGS FOR HOMES? IS YOUR FURNITURE OF FLOORING FADING?
An added benefit of an awning is they will cut out over 90% of UV rays preventing your furniture and flooring fading.
UV rays are what causes your furniture or flooring to fade.
