FAUX WOOD BLINDS……WOODEN BLINDS WITH A TWIST
Posted on 23 August 2018 by Phil Coleman
Faux wood blinds are becoming more and more popular and has now overtaken our sales of traditional wooden blinds.
Faux wood blinds are designed to look like wooden venetian blinds but were suitable to be installed in kitchens, bathrooms and en-suites.
Being made of PVC they are waterproof, which makes them much easier to keep clean as you can wipe them down without worrying about damaging the paint as you would have on a traditional wooden blind.
There is also no risk of warping or twisting when installed in areas prone to moisture.
The huge growth in faux wood blinds has meant the choice of colours and styles is now far greater than the traditional wooden blinds.
Another reason faux wood blinds are becoming more and more popular is their durability. If you were a little heavy handed with a traditional wooden blind then you could crack or splinter the slats.
Faux wood blinds being made of PVC means that the slats can bend and flex rather than crack, making them perfect for homes with children or pets.
There are a few things that you need to take into account when choosing between faux wood blinds and traditional wooden blinds.
Faux wood blinds are not suitable in hot conditions like conservatories. Excessive heat can cause the slats to twist. This seems to be worse on blinds that are darker colours.
The other point you may want to consider is the number of slat supports you need on a faux wood blind. The slats are not as rigid as a traditional wooden blind, so you will have more ladders or tapes if you choose a faux wood blind.
To give you an example with a traditional wooden blind to can have a blind up to 700mm wide with only 2 ladder or tape supports, whereas a faux wood blind can only go up to 550mm with 2.
So just be a little careful if you are considering the tape option on a wide blind as it can look a little over powering.
